Henry's 5th Birthday

Yep, that's right - Henry turned 5 this year!  He seems so grown up now - he's developed an interest in Lego's, Star Wars, and Star Wars Lego's (not such a big surprise).  He loves spending time with his dad, racing, riding his bike and saying things that make us laugh.  It will be fun to see how he grows this coming year.

His birthday was on a Wednesday and he was more than happy to open presents before breakfast!

Opening the first of many Star Wars Lego's sets...

Celebration dance - he was VERY excited about the Lego's stuff.

Sharing their ages with the camera.

We spent a few hours assembling Lego's stuff and found it was close to noon.  Henry changed into his favorite summer wear  (long pants and a long-sleeve shirt) before discovering that he had some birthday mail to open!

Mail is so much fun when you are a kid!

Uncle Jon and Uncle Jeff came over in the afternoon to sing happy birthday and have some ice cream cake.

The following weekend, we went to Lake Florida and celebrated Henry's and Grandma L's birthday.  We had planned a birthday lunch for Grandma after church but the chicken took it's time roasting so we gave in to Henry's begging and opened presents first.

Walter keeping an eye on everything...

Aahh, the much wished for X-wing!

This sweet shirt made him smile...R2-D2 and C3-PO are pretty cool.

Assembling phase one of the X-wing with Dad.

Meanwhile, Walter and Gramps worked on their own project.

On to a quick Popsicle break that ended with Walter trying to cool down everybody and everything within ten feet.

Back to helping Gramps.

Getting ready to make a wish and blow out the candles.  Grandma made Henry's cake of choice - a chocolate Thomas cake.

This is one of Henry's classic facial expressions - have to document this stuff when I can!

Getting a little help with the candles.

Happy Birthday to my 5 year old sweetie!
We're praying that he will continue to grow in his knowledge and love of the Lord Jesus and His Word in the coming years.  We're so thankful for the H-Man...what a gift!

A Couple Days in June

Mimi Megan came to visit us one day in June.  We were still keeping things low-key since Henry was 10 days into his recovery from surgery.  We really needed to get out of our house, so we did make a short stop at the kiddie pool in town.  As you can see from the picture, everybody was a little sleepy...A little later Megan and I were able to go out for dinner to celebrate her birthday.

Unfortunately, 24 hours later the stomach flu also visited our home.  Nate recovered just in time for us to
celebrate Henry's first day of returning to regular activities and food.  We spent Friday afternoon at the lake and H couldn't get into the water fast enough - he actually stripped down in the yard to get his swimming stuff on!  We went fishing with Nate, his brothers and our nephew, George.  Walter caught a northern but things weren't moving fast enough for Henry so he jumped in the water and went swimming between the boats.  :)  We told him he could pick out what he wanted to eat for his "first dinner" - McDonald's Happy Meal.

On Sunday, we spent some time at George Lake with Nate's family before Grandma A left on a mission trip.  The boys were so happy to be back in the water again.

These two love swimming with their dad!

A very happy kiddo...

Then we headed over to Lake Florida and enjoyed making 'Smores with Grandma and Grandpa L and Mimi Megan.
Walter and Nate trying to get a fire going...

Henry watching the fire process (maybe feeling a bit tired from all the swimming).

...still working on the fire...

Ah, youth and flexibility.

 Walter snuggling with Mimi.
