First Day of School

The first day of school was later than usual for us because they needed a few extra weeks to finish the new high school building.  We went to the open house on Labor Day and visited the boys' classrooms and they played on the playground.  Henry woke up on Tuesday morning all ready to get going.  He was very disappointed that the buses weren't running that morning.  I can hardly believe that Henry is in kindergarten this year with Mrs. J and Walter is in Preschool with Mrs. V.  Although Walter was very excited about his new backpack and shoes, he was a little unsure about the whole school thing.

Did I mention the bunny ears?

Pretending that they are waiting for the bus...and upset about it.
They are pretty good actors.

Getting reading for the commencement chapel with Amar and Landry.
It wasn't too long after this that they started asking, "Is this almost done?"

Henry found his seat.

The first day is only for Kindergarten and up so
Walter happily trotted out to the playground after visiting his classroom.

Grandma Josie's Birthday

After the wedding reception and an overnight stay at Grandma and Grandpa L's house, we headed to the lake to celebrate Grandma Josie's birthday.

We made a quick stop at Grandma Jo's and Grandpa Will's.  Walter loves saying "hi" to Penny whenever he gets the chance.

Anna's Wedding Reception

On August 31 we drove to Wisconsin for the wedding reception of my cousin and her husband (Anna & Anthony).  It was a hot day but the boys kept cool in their Hawaiian shirts.  We're glad we got to help them celebrate.

My Aunt Edie sent this picture, which is far superior to the one I took on my phone (below) but the computer refuses to rotate it...so I'm including the washed out picture, too.

The bunny ears are big at our house right now.  Can you tell?

The two wiggly blurs are Henry and Walter - having fun with cousin Kyle.

Friends

We went to the park with our friends one morning
and they stayed for lunch and a little play time.

Henry's 6th Birthday Party

Once we got through weeks of pneumonia and other fun stuff, we were finally able to set a date in August for Henry's birthday party.  He invited a few friends from school to swim at the pool and then play at our house.

Deciding which treat to buy...they were trying to convince Jack (the lifeguard) that one quarter could buy a candy bar that was $1.00, but he didn't fall for it.

Shaking presents

For many weeks, we practiced what to say when opening a present:
"You've been hoping for Jabba the Hut Palace for months.  When you open the next present you see it isn't the palace, it's a Barbie house!  What do you say?"
Henry:  "Thank you...but then we could exchange it, right Mom?"
Walter:  "No thank you, please.  I'd like something else."

Legos!

Grandma L made a Boba Fett cake that was pretty tasty.  Henry chose Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle plates and napkins, a bull piñata for the game, and Angry Bird tattoos and Princess Leia cupcakes for the gift bags - a wide assortment of fun.

Blowing out the candles

Yum!  They stayed in character while they were eating cake - which was pretty funny.  There were lots of sword fights and chases while they were playing.

We played a few chasing games and then it was on to the piñata.  It was a tough creature so Nate ended up having to break it up but the boys had fun trying.  I think the party was a success - Henry seemed to have a good time and we enjoyed getting to know his friends.
